You know the feeling. The school bags have barely hit the floor before you hear, “What’s for dinner?” or “I’m hungry!” If your little ones seem ready to eat the moment they get home, you’re certainly not alone.
New research found that more than half of UK parents say their child tells them they’re hungry as soon as they walk through the door after school. In fact, almost three-quarters admit they’ve brought dinner forward to avoid pre-mealtime meltdowns.
While some families turn to activities to keep little hands and minds busy, only a third of parents say they regularly do this before dinner. That’s where Herta comes in.
The Making Mealtimes Happy activity book was curated with Cook & TV Presenter Briony May Williams and Cheryl Gavrielides, Children’s Activity Book Author & Content Creator. It’s filled with fun, family-friendly activities and delicious recipe inspiration to help make the wait for dinner a little easier. Whether you’re getting children involved in preparing the meal or encouraging creative play at the dinner table, there are plenty of ways to turn those “hangry” moments into happy family memories.
Research conducted by OnePoll in 2026 on behalf of Herta among 1,000 UK parents of children aged 2–10.
